Chalet Vista is about as central to the Zillertal ski areas as you can get, whichever way you go there’s fun to be had! There’s family skiing at Ramsberg within walking distance, while advanced/expert skiers will find we’re ideally placed for them to explore the many surrounding, challenging, ski areas. The area is HUGE- 671km of piste is even bigger than France’s 3 Valleys.  The Tux glacier provides skiing even in summer and the surrounding mountains are high (67 peaks over 3000m)- so guests can be assured of quality snow for their holiday.

Guests can fly into either Innsbruck or Munich airports. Innsbruck is the most convenient and offers the fastest transfer time; lots of weekend charter flights arrive here during the ski season. Munich however is a truely international all-weather airport. It has loads of daily scheduled services from the UK (BA and LH from LHR, Easyjet from Gatwick and Singapore Airlines/UAE airlines from MAN).  It rarely suffers delays, no matter how bad the weather. We use both, depending on which offers the best deal/most convenient time of day. There’s more flights into/out of Munich than Innsbruck.

From Munich airport we suggest you take a hire car. On a normal day it takes 1 hour 45 minutes from leaving the airport to arrive at the door of Chalet Vista. [Mike’s top tip is read the car-hire small print; often the same car is listed twice. The more expensive car often works out cheaper long-run, as it contains the “winterisation” package of snow tires (and possibly chains, although you’re unlikely to need them with snow tires). If you arrive at the airport without the “winterisation” package you’ll be billed a daily rate- up to €13 per day.]  For guests using Satnav, our address is: Penzing 624, 6278 Hainzenberg, Austria. Or, if you wish to use raw lat and long, we’re located at: 47N12.36 011E52.53.

Leave the airport following signs to Salzburg. This will take you south of Munich onto motorway A8/E45. Leave A8 onto A93 south to German/Austrian border town of Kurfstein (signed “Innsbruck”). The motorway becomes A12 as you cross into Austria. Beware- to drive legally on Austrian motorways you need to buy a vignette. Do so at any of the service stations prior to Kurstein, cost approx €9 for 10 days. [Mike’s top tip: If you don’t want to buy a vignette, leave A8 at junction 97 onto road 318 via Tegernsee and Achensee. It’s a very picturesque route and will normally only take an extra 20 minutes more than the motorway. Indeed, on Saturdays during the ski season this route is sometimes quicker than the motorway which becomes jammed with German skiers on change-over].

Leave motorway A12 at junction 39 (the Tegernsee-Archensee road joins here too) onto road 169 direction “Zillertal”. Drive 20 minutes in the direction of Mayrhofen. 6km prior to Mayrhofen you will enter the town of Ramsau. At the traffic lights/cross road (near the Shell garage) turn left and drive up the hill. At all junctions keep going up the hill following signs for Mountain and Soul hotel.  You’ll see M&S (a large lime green and purple chalet) on your left as you climb the hill, continue straight ahead and pass under the Ramsberg chairlift. When the road switches back right hand through 180 degrees and you see the “H Skibus” sign on the left continue straight on. 100m further on take the first left down the hill; Chalet Vista is the second house on the right, the big orange chalet, number “624” written by the front door.

If you’re coming from Innsbruck airport well done, you’ve shortened your journey to about 45 minutes. Again, beware “winterisation” charges and buy a vignette. Take the motorway direction “Salzburg” and leave at junction 39 onto road 169 “Zillertal”. Follow the directions above.  The map below highlights the last km rom Ramsau to us and the local amenities:

It’s possible to get to Chalet Vista by train from both Munich and Innsbruck. www.oebb.at is a great help for train travel planning- in German and English languages. There’s a train station at Munich airport. Take a train to Munich East (regular services), then a train direction Kurstein/Innsbruck. Change at Jenbach onto the Zillertal mountain railway (trains every 30 minutes) to Ramsau/Hippach station.

From Innsbruck take the bus from the airport to Innsbruck train station, then train to Jenbach etc. The change at Jenbach is easy- one platform to the other and from experience the schedules seem to match up so you only wait 5 minutes.

If you want to take a taxi, google “taxi mayrhofen” or use taxikroell. Their phone number is +43 (0) 5285 62260.

When we need to get to or from the airport our favourite way is by shuttle bus taxi. Four Seasons Travel offer a bespoke shared taxi service in one of several new minibuses from both Munich and Innsbruck airports. Give them at least 72 hours notice and they will pick you up at the time of your choice and take you effortlessly to your destination. They may pick up/drop off other people along the way but it’s a lot less hassle than transferring between buses or trains yourself in the snow. The cost? A very reasonable €56 return cost from/to Innsbruck, €82 from/to Munich. Book your place with them at www.taxi-tirol.at but do so as early as possible, as they sometimes get full on Saturdays in high season.

Last on the travel options, but by no means least, we have a Mercedes people carrier. We may be able to pick you up or drop you off by prior arrangement. For more details, just ask us.  We wish you happy travels. If you have problems or questions, email the owner at “mike.tarry2@gmail.com” or call +44 7717 495678 (UK mobile) or +43 664 503 8944 (Aut mobile) and we’ll try to help.

660w Chalet Vista (ski slope and bus stop)

Guests often ask can they ski in/out? To do so is something of a rarity in the Zillertal valley, but the trade off is you stay in a picturesque village with soul, not in a prefab concrete sardine can.  From Chalet Vista a short walk of 150m along the small road in front of the house will take you to the nearest meadow (snow covered mid-winter of course), from which you can ski to the Ramsberg chairlift.  Or from roughly the same point one can take the free ski bus to Horberg cable-car (for Penken ski area/Mayrhofen). The owner is an ex-racer and snowboard instructor; Mike offers ski/snowboard guiding on an ad-hoc basis.

In summary, Chalet Vista is one of the best (possibly the best?) rental chalets in the Zillertal area. It is perfectly located in the centre of the surrounding ski areas and convenient for both Innsbruck and Munich airports.  We bought the property 14 Dec 2012; everything is brand new and has been designed with luxury, relaxation and socialising very much in mind. Inside guests love the modern, clean, contemporary feel and the upmarket facilities.  We hope to welcome you to our fabulous chalet soon.
