There are bars all over the Zillertal offering apres ski entertainment. if you don’t know what a “Flugel”, or a “Williams” is yet, or how to sing and dance the icebear song, you will by the end of you holiday. We guarantee it! There are far too many options to name check them all. What is for sure is you won’t go thirsty. Our favourities on the slopes are Hans Peter’s at Eggalm, Stephan’s Kristalhutte at Hoch Zillertal, Stephis at Zil Arena, and Icebar at the bottom of the Penken skilift for hot sweaty dancing on a podium from 5pm with a polar bear (or girl in hula skirt, you choose).
Close to Chalet Vista is Mountain and Soul; funky, fresh, fusion, fashionable. Great food, atmosphere, tunes and apres, and on our doorstep. In Ramsau the Pink Panther bar can get busy and nightclub next door has a variety of band playing live each week. They even do a “sexy lady” show on Fridays (according to the board outside) but as we haven’t seen it we can’t comment on just how sexy!
For a proper “pub” feel you can’t beat Scotland Yard, two minutes walk back from the high street. It’s the former Mayrhofen police station, hence the name. Popular with a range of ages, locals and tourists. They serve (Brit style) “pub” food which can be eaten in the grungy pub, or the spacious seating in the funkier covered garden. This is the hang out of the local pro and semi-pro boarders, so it must be cool! Be sure to wear oversize trousers and your baseball cap backwards.
Want a slightly more upmarket feel? DJs spin chilled house tunes while well trained barmen serve champagne and cocktails at Coup and More on the high street. We like it but it comes at a cost. Consequently it’s more for cool the 30+ers. Wear normal trousers and leave your baseball cap at home!
Ice bar kicks out about 8pm just as the mayhem is getting into full swing. We’re never quite sure why but it’s probably to give them a chance to remove all the debris and drunk/sleeping/sick people, wash everything down, restock, then go again from 9pm! It closes about midnight.
Roll down the hill two doors and you’ll find a live music venue above ground and a nightclub below it. Further down the high street is Harikari, above Die Rotten Profis ski school. Harikari serves pizzas during the day until about 11pm. Then it turns into a full on nightclub with laser shows, podium dancers and fire-breathing barmen (last year they did a hair singeing display every night at midnight). Harikiri goes till 4am. See you at 8:30 for the first lift?
